What is a Certified Financial Counselor?

A Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor (CCUFC) is a credit union professional who has completed specialized training and certification through America's Credit Unions (ACU).

Think of them as a financial coach and trusted guide. Their role is to work alongside you to better understand your finances and help you move forward with confidence. They can assist with creating a budget, exploring options that support your goals, building money management skills, and sharing helpful financial education along the way.

When working with one of our certified financial counselors, you can expect a supportive experience with someone who listens, encourages, and meets you where you are.

What should I talk about during my appointment?

Your session is all about you. To get the most out of it, we encourage you to share details about your current financial situation, any challenges you’re facing, and what you’d like to work toward.

Our financial counselors are trained to lead judgment-free conversations, assess your financial health, help you understand your financial picture, and work with you to create a realistic plan that fits your life and priorities.

How do I know if financial counseling is right for me?

Financial counseling can be helpful at any stage of life. You might be feeling confident and simply want a second set of eyes. You may be recovering from an unexpected expense. Or you may be ready to improve your financial health but aren’t sure where to begin. Whatever your situation, we’re here to listen and help you move forward.

Some of the goals we commonly help people work toward include:

  • Paying down debt
  • Improving or understanding credit scores
  • Creating a realistic budget
  • Building an emergency fund
  • Saving for retirement or future goals
  • Learning how credit works
  • Identifying scams and protecting yourself
  • Developing healthy money habits
  • Practicing a positive financial mindset
  • And much more!
How long is an appointment?

Each appointment lasts approximately 60 minutes and is scheduled during Credit Union ONE’s normal business hours.

Are appointments virtual or in person?
We offer both virtual and in-person appointments. You can choose the option and location that works best for you when you book an appointment.
Do I have to be a Credit Union ONE member?
No, you do not need to be a Credit Union ONE member to participate. This financial coaching service is free and open to the public.
What should I bring to my appointment?
  • Recent account statements for banking, bills, and expenses
  • Recent pay stubs or income documents
  • Financial questions, concerns, and goals you would like to discuss
Can I meet with a counselor more than once?
Yes! Our financial counselors follow a coaching-based approach, so you’re welcome to meet with our financial counselors as often as you’d like. We can schedule ongoing sessions to help you stay on track, adjust your plan as life changes, and continue making progress toward your financial goals and long-term financial wellness.
